MINI Cooper Made for Me 3 comments

mini cooper countryman s

It was a 5-years-long waiting for MINI to hear my thoughts (as they did in c1rca) and make the Cooper I’d buy. Not just buy but also adore, love, respect, be proud of and drive like I’m riding a dream. Here it is — coming soon MINI Cooper Countryman. Besides it’s new design and perfect body it has normal amount of doors. MINI fans can blame me I don’t feel the spirit, banish Countryman out of Cooper family — I don’t care. I just want to ride this perfect six-speed manual gear box beauty!

Just because it’s MINI, the ads are wonderful. I’ll spoil the joy a bit offering you to watch Countryman ad prior to teaser of that car. Read more

Working parts 3 comments

covers

Once the man I know and who’s job is something about moving numbers from on Excel row to another asked me, “How aren’t you bored with what you do for living (whatever you do)?” As long as whatever I do including writing is of this post can hardly compete with fascinating words of numbers and Excel I started explaining how I still haven’t shoot myself because of all this dull design and ad things I do. I stated that as for me, the secret of successful and interesting job, whatever you do, is in enjoying it. Working under whiplash is nonsense, you have to change either your attitude or your work. Laundering seals, joking on Higgs boson or making sites must be made with ease. That’s when the work will thank you with great ideas and good emotions. Read more

Portugal Pro 7 comments

lisbonsintraornaments

It’s almost a year since I’ve visited Portugal. I can’t forget this country and want to come back to comfy streets of Lisbon, feel +20 °C in December, walk by bank and finally buy that t-shirt with tram #28 on it. I didn’t think that I want it so much until Tonya Shoo asked me in facebook: “Hello! I’ve noticed you’ve been to Lisbon. We are going there too, would you please recommend anything?… I’ve already read about Vino Verde.” I wanted to write something brief and clear, but tough luck ;) Read more

Big Mother is watching me

Our parliament decided to pass a law about censorship in internet. Though it’s just a bill now it was voted for by 404 deputies (irony of fate, yeah ;) Briefly, they want internet service providers to log all the information about every user net activity. These logs can be used later to determine if user made something illegal. What is illegal isn’t yet defined is supposed to be later. Read more

Interview for Smashing Magazine 7 comments

ah? yeah!

I don’t get excited drinking coffee. One cup is enough for me to fall asleep. That’s why I wasn’t drinking coffee that night. But I answered the questions of Arsart who was writing the big article about web design in Russia for Smashing Magazine. I act as a bystander who’s somehow involved in the Russian web design scene. The article that includes my interview is fun and interesting: Showcase of Web Design in Russia.

I’d like to tell you more but I am veeerrryy sleepy and see no way to wake as long as coffee is not the answer. So I’ll stop right here. ;)

Take a pic to contact 11 comments

kovenkincard

I made a pretty business card for photographer with QR code on one side. It sounds like a good joke that you have to take pic of his card if you want him to contact you to take yours. I just feel like I don’t want to right anything more, so I illustrated how it works if you have card, cell phone and app that recognizes QR codes on that phone:

Iodine makes me clever 6 comments

iamclever

My friend who doesn’t start his blog just to make me unable to link to him is now a sectary of community where it’s believed that people must eat iodine. Not pure iodine to prevent wounds inside the had but iodised salt. It helps to fill a person with necessary iodine amount. It’s very important to have enough iodine in your body if you live in radiation affected places like Ukraine. Iodine also prevents kids from growing idiots. Doesn’t help at 100% and gives a warranty but minimises some risks.

My friend is visiting the conference of that iodine-addicted missionaries about saving Ukraine. So I’ve created him a uniform, so he can spread the news that iodine and salt are good together!

Made a card for bo. The strikedthrough text says “I can do everything” while the title is “editor”. It’s fun to make unusual cards.

Opera: No light at the end of the tunnel

There are three ways to make a tasty dish. You can take everything you consider to be tasty, mix it and throw into boiling oil. It would be fried and even can be tasty. My friend, who came from London to have a pint of beer with me in Kiev, told me about Fried Mars — you have to fry Mars in boiling oil. Someone can even find it tasty, but let’s get back from Mars to Earth. The second way to make a dish is used by chefs in restaurants: you’ll have to know how to cook masterly. But this is the hardest way and not everyone can do it while the first is within everyone’s power. There is one more way where you don’t have to be virtuoso of cooking but still will be able to make a tasty… erm… result ;) Just cook like it’s written in the cookbook!

I’ve just realised that the metaphor would only win if I use cocktails instead of dishes but the I’ll have to get rid of Fried Mars, so let’s leave the things they are.

So, the choice of the way to cook for a person, who just wants to make tasty dinner but isn’t in any way chief cook, is obvious. He or she takes the cookbook and cooks instead of throwing pickles, Skittles, two sausages, vanilla and unagi in boiling oil, expecting for acceptable result. Read more

Flash 10 Antipasti and URL roundup 13 comments

Sorry Mario

I remember how it all started. Long time ago, when dinosaurs were using modems, sites were called homepages and word google meant nothing, there still were URLs of the sites. We called it site addresses and if you wanted to look smartass you could say something like unique address of the web resource based in the world wide web. Programmers now known as it-specialists were programming on their own and it brought to the expected results — strange URLs of different pages. I mean something like blablabla.com/?sid=23l&pid=ln123&youare=cookiemonster which could lead somewhere to the search page or latest news from time to time. Then like the knights without fear and with goodness in hearts came new guys. Strange looking, doing nothing but consultations and calling themselves usabilists. Read more
